Charles Reuben Euridge (1887-1917)

Noticed on Genes Reunited, a tree match with William Ingram who is researching Charlie Euridge born in 1890 in Burton upon Trent Staffordshire. This is my great uncle Charles Reuben EURIDGE.

Charles married Bertha YEOMANS in 1909 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. They had three children, Wilfred Charles EURIDGE, Maureen Anne, and Nellie.

William has listed all these names on Genes Reunited, so I am optimistic that he is directly connected. I wait in eager anticipation.

Boaz Veasey c1845 Frome, Somerset

Noticed on Genes Reunited, a tree match with Geoff Chamberlain, for Boaz Veasey c1845 from Frome.

My mother's maiden name was Veasey, and her family came from the Yeovil area in Somerset. The furtherest I have traced back to is my 2 x great-grandfather Isaac Veasey who was born between 1813 and 1816 in Frome.

I have seen the name Boaz mentioned before. The family were living in Nunney, Somerset in the 1861 census.

Veasey has so many variants, it is very difficult to locate.

1841 Census

The 1841 census is now available on http://www.ancestry.co.uk/. There are:

England

  • 0 Euridge
  • 4 Ewridge
  • 52 Uridge
  • 13 Wridge

There were none located in Wales

GOONS Web Award 2006 - Comments

My friend has just given me some food for thought on this:

"I know the award was important to you but personally I think the website itself is much more important and more deserving of your focus. Frankly, 50 years from now no one will care whether you won an award in 2006. But, the legacy and totality of what you created will be priceless for future Euridge and Pask generations. That is the true goal of genealogy, not winning awards. Focus on the website itself and let that be its own reward."

Thanks Mark, You are so right.

GOONS Web Award 2006

Yesterday the GOONS Web Award 2006 was officially announced.

The winners were
1: http://www.gander-exeter.freeserve.co.uk/
2: http://www.speidelfamilygenealogy.com/
3: http://www.treverton.net/

Also commended
www.grubb-family.org.uk
www.pask.org.uk
www.uridge.org

Although our websites http://www.pask.org.uk/ and http://www.uridge.org/ were commended, I was somewhat disappointed with the results. Last year, http://www.uridge.org/ was 2nd, and the previous time 3rd. However last year http://www.pask.org.uk/ was not even mentioned.

Striving to improve, I followed the recommendations from the judges, I revamped both websites, stripping out all the previous javascript and focusing on improving the technical side with well structured HTML.

The comment this year was that:
"though your sites are well designed, we felt that design standards had moved
on"

Oh well, some you win, some you loose!

The main thing is that that the websites continue to grow substantially, together with the certificates, photographs, dates and anecdotes that would never have come our way had we not had the websites. Sincere thanks to all fellow researchers who have contributed to the websites.

George James Uridge ( d 1907)

Heard again from Margaret Luby, who is researching George James URIDGE who fell off his bicycle and died on 4 September 1907 in Germiston, South Africa. Margaret has kindly provided certificates for the marriage of his son Richard George URIDGE to Ivy Watson. Also the marriage certificate for George's widow Ellen Emily URIDGE née COX to her second husband Thomas NEALE.

Margaret's great-grandparents George James and Ellen Emily are believed to have lived in South Africa. Their children are not listed in the GRO birth indexes, and the family have not been found in the 1901 census. Ellen Emily lived with her four children in the Acton area in the early 1900s.

I need to locate the inquest of George James URIDGE, which was sent to me from South Africa sometime ago. After my move back from Germany I am still struggling with boxes!
