The Uridge, Euridge website was updated today Wednesday 16 March 2016.
This update again focuses on Family Chart 4, the descendants and their spouses of Philip & Sarah Uridge née Barton, who emigrated to America in 1851,
together with their six children William, Sarah, Philip, Mary, George,
and Elizabeth. The family settled in Michigan.
Also included is information relating to the EURIDGE, and URIDGE UK-based families that were recorded in the recently released The 1939 Register.
The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, provides a snapshot of
the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of
the Second World War. The records were used to produce up-to-date population statistics and
identification cards and, once rationing was introduced in January
1940, to facilitate the issuing of ration cards. Information in the
Register was also used to administer conscription, and to monitor and
control the movement of the population caused by military mobilisation
and mass evacuation. Further information is available at The National Archives website.
Currently, 120+ records have been found in The 1939 Register. Over the course of the next few months, it is hoped that this information will be included in the narratives.
In the meantime, since the last website update on 1 January 2016, 123 existing narratives have been changed, and 15 new narratives have
been added. There is now a
total of 2,862 detailed narratives available on the website. However,
overall in the URIDGE, EURIDGE database there is now 4,074 (54 new)
people, including living people.

Website Update 1 January 2016
The Uridge, Euridge website was updated today Friday 1 January 2016.
This update focuses on the descendants and their spouses of Philip & Sarah Uridge née Barton, who emigrated to America in 1851, together with their six children William, Sarah, Philip, Mary, George, and Elizabeth. The family settled in Michigan.
Also included is an extensive update on the family, and descendants, of my 3 x great-grandparents William & Elizabeth Appleby née Chatterton, from Derbyshire. A new chart has been included which shows eight generations of descendants.
In addition, there have been some structural changes to the menus:

Since the last update, 7 new narratives have been created, and 55 narratives changed.

Euridge Family Gathering 3-5 July
Definitely a good time was had by all. It was great to see all the nephews and nieces, and their children. The weather was brilliant.

Family Finder DNA Kits
You may not be aware, but I am the DNA Kit Coordinator for the Guild
of One-Name Studies. Most of the Y-DNA kits (applicable to males only)
were purchased through the Guild. The results can be seen at http://www.uridge.org/Euridge_Uridge-p/ui31.htm.
In the last few weeks, the Guild has negotiated a deal for Family Finder kits - a special price of £60.00, which includes postage and handling, worldwide. This price is unique to Guild Members, and their DNA project participants. Several (E)URIDGEs have already completed this Family Finder test.

Tremain and Uridge Photo Albums
Philip Dorland recently advised that he has three 1800’s Tremain
and Uridge photo albums.
These photo albums are from the Eleanore Frances (Uridge) Koopman's house in Falmouth, Michigan. Many of the pictures are from her mother's (Julia Tremain) family. However Owen Uridge is written on one of the photo sleeve. It is a possibility that more Uridges are included in those albums.
Pictures from the albums have been digitized and uploaded to https://www.flickr.com/photos/130354469@N07/ with the hope that some other family members may have an idea as to the identity of the people.

Website Update 19 July 2014
The Uridge, Euridge website was updated today Satuday 19 July 2014.
Apologies for those fellow researchers who have submitted information that has not been included since the last update, two years ago. Due to other commitments, including moving house, I became significantly behind with updating the database and website.
A full list of the changes to the narratives, since 1 January 2012, is available in the New or Changed Narratives section.
Hopefully, in the near future I will be able to restructure the website and remove out-of-date information.
Whilst the website may have not been maintained during the last two years, I can reassure you that I have still been doing ongoing research.

Let Me Go
They say time heals, but I have felt that over the last six months, I have been grieving more. Today is the 3rd anniversary of my beloved mother's death ― see my previous blog

I will be 65 in a few weeks, and my husband suggested having a party. However, I said I couldn't as it would remind me too much about my 60th birthday when my lovely mother attended.
Only a few days later, whilst researching on the internet, I inadvertently came across this poem, which I feel sure she has sent me to tell me to stop grieving and enjoy myself.

William George Uridge
Today I received an e-mail from Kevin R. Brady, from Australia, who I
have been corresponding with since 1985 about the descendants of George & Frances Uridge née Lane who lived in Hoo, Kent.
William George Uridge the son of Charlotte Uridge, daughter of George Uridge of Hoo, Kent, died near Wilcannia in New South Wales in 1882. This area is very remote.
Kevin has just found out that he was even in a more remote territory of Australia about 5 years prior to his death.
New South Wales Police Gazette - 15 Aug 1877 Page 268
On the 16th July last, the remains of a man were found in the bush about 14 miles from Pooncarie by Mr. William Uridge, who reported the occurrence to the Pooncarie Police. No Magisterial enquiry was held. deceased is supposed to have been lost in the bush about sixteen months ago, and to have perished for want of water. description: About 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair; dressed in moleskin trousers, flannel shirt, and drawers, cotton shirt, lace-up boots, gray woollen socks, and white soft felt hat, a pocket-knife, match-box, and purse, were found on deceased. Two cans, one padlock, and one pannikin, were found near the deceased.

This includes information kindly provided by Shirley Barr Dubuque, Cal Uridge Whiffen, and Cynthia Shepard relating to the Uridge-Whiffen family.
Chart 5: Thomas & Mary Uridge née Hider who lived in Buxted, Sussex in the 1760s #762 .
This includes information kindly provided by Murray Jordan on the New Zeland branch of this family.
At the same time I included some new functionality available from Second Site - One Person Script. In future, when selecting a specific person it will only show that one person. Previously it showed up to 25 people on one page. Many thanks to John Cardinal, for this smart feature.

The purpose of the update was in preparation for a talk I am giving tomorrow on The Master Genealogist (TMG) family history program, at the Guild of One-Name Studies Glocuestershire Regional meeting at the National Star College, Ullenwood, Cheltenham.

Kathleen “Kay” Euridge, mother of nine children, died peacefully on Tuesday July 5, at the age of 86, at the home of her youngest daughter in Hurley Common, Warwickshire. She had suffered from cancer for the last five months.
Kay was widowed at the early age of 34, when her husband, Royal Marine Colour Sergeant, Reginald “Red” Charles Euridge, died in a tragic scooter accident 2 days before Christmas on December 23 1958, when travelling to Exeter his scooter skidded on ice at Cockwood. At that time their nine children were aged between 3 and 16. She single-handled raised all nine children, with the philosophy you “reap as you sow”. Her nine children Michael, Reginald “Roger”, Marie, Richard, Terry, Teresa, Kelvin “Bill”, Kay, and Robin are testimony to her beliefs.
Kay was born on July 25 1924 in Carmarthen, Wales. She was the youngest daughter of Herbert and Margaret Veasey née Rees. At the age of 3 she moved to Stoford, Somerset – her father Herbert, a Woodman, originated from nearby Upton Noble. They then moved to Yeovil.
She was predeceased by her siblings Annie Mary Evans, Gwendoline Chant, Leonora “Nora” Adams, and Herbert Reginald Veasey.
At the early age of 16 she married Reginald “Red” Charles Euridge, who she met on Weymouth railway station during WWII. Kay had dropped her suitcase and the contents had spilled onto the platform, and he helped her pick them up. They married, and settled in Yeovil.
After the war, Red re-joined the Royal Marines, and in 1953 they moved to Barkara, and St. George’s Bay in Malta. In February 1954 they moved to “Briar Hill”, Shutterton Lane, Dawlish Warren.
After the tragic death of her husband, Kay moved to 16 Third Avenue, Dawlish, and in 1994 she moved to 54 Linden Road, Dawlish. She lived in Dawlish for over 50 years, and was well known. However, in her later years, due to failing health, she moved to Hurley Common to live with her youngest daughter Kay.
Kay Euridge was a strong character, but warm, and affectionate mother who was dedicated to her 9 children, 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her hobbies were gardening, knitting, music, and she loved cruising on the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) – enjoying trips to New York, Florida, Malta, Dubrovnik, the Norwegian Fjords, and the Arctic Circle.

The focus of this update was some New Zealand information provided by Philip Boyle. He advised that Eileen Marguerite, and Bryan John Uridge's parents were John Joseph & Kathleen Uridge née Connor.
At the same time, I included birth, marriages, and deaths information from the New Zealand Government records for births, deaths and marriages.

The Uridge, Euridge website was updated yesterday Tuesday 13 July. The focus of this update was the Californian information provided by Patty Haun Markarian and Mary Del Carlo at our recent get-together.
I have now verified the information, wherever possible, from California Births, and Deaths available on http://www.ancestry.com/, together with US Census information. Chart 6 has been extensively updated.
A full list of the recent changes to the narratives is available in the New or Changed Narratives section. The narratives section now includes 2710 narratives.

Euridge-Uridge Get Together in San Francisco
On 3 July 2010, there was a mini Euridge-Uridge family get together in San Francisco. I met up with Patty Haun, and Mary Del Carlo, whose mother was Bessie Ethel Uridge. We have been e-mailing, and exchanging information since May 2000, when the Uridge-Euridge website was first implemented.

After lunch at The Plant Cafe, Pier 3, we went to the Fine Arts Meseums of San Francisco including the de Young Musuem in Golden Gate Park, and the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park. Patty had arranged for us to see the Birth of Impressionism, a special exhibition from the Musée d’Orsay in Paris - a superb experience.
Patty & Mary's great-grandfather was Walter George Uridge, who was born in 1865 in Chailey, Sussex. Walter emigrated in 1881 to California, USA, and was naturalized in 1904. He settled in Fresno, California, and was joined in 1896 by his cousin Albert Willsher Uridge.
Sadly Patty, Mary, and I are not related - as the DNA tests prove. However our ancestors shared the same unique surname. Similarily, we share the common interest in researching, and documenting our family history.

Descendants of George & Frances Uridge née Lane
Today I received an e-mail from Kevin R. Brady, from Australia, who I have been corresponding with since 1985 about the descendants of George & Frances Uridge née Lane who lived in Hoo, Kent.
Kevin has found some information on the children of their daughter Pheobe and her partner Richard Bathurst. He wrote:

... just lately I found a William Bathurst, who matches in age to Phoebe's son, on the census, in 1861 staying with Frances Edwards, who is daughter of George and Frances, and then with a Thomas Heath in 1871, who is the son of Hannah Uridge née Heath. ... in the 1871 census he is described as Cousin to Thomas Heath.Kevin also provided information on the children of John William & Hannah Heath née Uridge:
